Another Use For Felted Wool Sweaters

This Pendleton jacket was felted, deconstructed and cut into squares to make a blanket. The two red cashmere sweaters were only a part of the red cashmere sweaters I felted and then cut into squares for the blanket.
This jacket belonged to a friend’s dad. I wanted to make it into a blanket for her – so she would be reminded of her dad’s love. I used the breast pocket from the jacket to put in the blanket as a square. She can use this little pocket for Kleenex or Chapstick.
Many people do not attempt to sew fleece to another fabric. The blanket was backed with green fleece. I used an iron-on fabric binder to join the felted wool side to the fleece material. Once the two sides were secure I used the overlock stitch on my sewing machine to finish the edge of the blanket. You could used a blanket edging satin or other material – but I wanted the felted wool from the Pendleton jacket to be the focus of this blanket.
The felt backing makes the blanket warm and snuggly. I hope she enjoys it!

I have three of those Pendleton jackets. I’ve thought of cutting them up to use like this but I can’t stand the thought of never wearing them again. My mom found them at a yard sale, for $.75 each and they just seem so classic!
